Once he or she has tried the open door rich rewards can often by lying around in the shape of car keys, handbags and mobile phones.
Modern immobilisers and alarms have made starting cars much harder but simply by leaving the keys lying around you could be presenting the thief with the car in your driveway.
Advice is to lock your doors when inside the house and make sure that small, steal able items not left lying around.
Another crime prevention mantra is to fit an alarm.
The majority of thefts are from premises that are not protected by an alarm system. In Leeds the local crime prevention officer can provide you with a list of approved alarm suppliers to help obtain an estimate.
